HORSE SHOW CHECK LIST

Attending a horse show for the first time can be a wonderful experience as well as a great way for each horse and rider to further develop their skills. To help with all the needs in preparing for a horse show, this checklist will help ensure our new riders and their parents are prepared.

REGISTRATION: SENT BY ACE FOR ALL RIDERS IN DHJSC

  • Pre-select the specific show dates, horse, and divisions your rider will compete in on SignUp Genius.

  • Know the address of show location

  • Confirm arrival time on show date (typically on Friday before show)

  • Complete your Annual Membership to either Dallas Hunter Jumper Scholarship Circuit (DHJSC) or Dallas Dressage Club (DDC). * Both online at club websites

  • Checkbook/Wallet/ID (a blank check is required at the beginning of the show)

SHOW ATTIRE

Dressage:

  • White show shirt

  • Navy or Black Short Fitted Riding Jacket

  • Clean breeches

  • Tall Dressage or Field riding boots

  • Approved Black helmet (no designs)

  • Riding socks

  • Riding Gloves (Black)

  • Belt

  • ​Hair neatly tucked under helmet or snug bun at back of neck


Show Jumpers:

  • Collared shirt

  • Clean breeches

  • Tall Field riding boots

  • Approved Black helmet (no designs)

  • Riding socks

  • Riding Gloves (Black)

  • Belt

Hunter: (18" and higher)

  • White show shirt​

  • Navy or Black Short Fitted Riding Jacket

  • Beige/Tan Breeches

  • Tall Field riding boots

  • Approved Black helmet (no designs)

  • Riding socks

  • Riding Gloves (Black)

  • Belt

  • Hair neatly tucked under helmet or snug bun at back of neck

Equitation: (Walk/Trot and Short-Stirrup)

  • White show shirt​

  • Navy or Black Short Fitted Riding Jacket

  • Beige/Tan Jodphurs

  • Black Paddock riding boots

  • Garter straps (black)

  • Approved Black helmet (no designs)

  • Riding socks

  • Riding Gloves (Black)

  • Belt

  • Hair braided with show bows or neatly snug bun at back of neck

WHAT TO BRING: RIDER AND PARENTS

  • BIG SMILES!

  • Spurs

  • Crop

  • Sunblock

  • Sunglasses

  • Hat

  • Comfortable clothes/shoes

  • Change of clothes for rider after competition

  • Cooler with Beverages and snacks

  • Folding chairs

  • Pain reliever, Band-Aids

  • Camera and/or video camera

  • Cell phone

  • Lint remover

  • Hair brush/rubber bands

  • Safety pins

WHAT TO BRING: HORSE TACK AND GROOMING

  • Wash your horse the day before the show

  • Show pad

  • Brushes

  • Hoof pick

  • Show sheen

  • Fly Spray

  • Leather cleaner

  • Wipe rag

  • Wet wipes

NOTE: Most show attire can be purchased online through Amazon or in-store at Dover Saddlery in Dallas
